Adaptive Riding

Therapeutic Riding

Adaptive / therapeutic horseback riding offers a fun environment for individuals with a variety of abilities. The lessons are structured to promote health and wellbeing. All our adaptive riding lessons are taught by accredited instructors with the assistance of our dedicated and well-trained volunteers. Classes focus on each participant's personalized wellness goals. Adaptive horseback riding improves physical health, relaxes muscles, enhances balance, builds strength, sharpens hand/eye coordination, boosts social skills, and fosters self-confidence and a sense of freedom. All lessons have a maximize of four riders which allows for individualized feedback and instruction while encouraging socialization and communication amongst riders.

Adaptive/therapeutic riding classes at TROtt include three categories:

  • Riding skills classes: riders learn functional riding skills with therapeutic benefits with the goal of advancing their equestrian skills.

  • Developmental classes: encourages movement exploration and prioritizes the development of communication and life skills through sensory activities and games.

  • Combination classes: these classes incorporate both riding skills with a developmental focus, where riders may be interested in advancing their equestrian knowledge and skills while also playing games.
